Consultation has concluded
The purpose of this project is to improve the flow of movement and the pedestrian crossing facilities in several locations around the Bromley-by-Bow area by making improvements to junctions, installing double yellow lines where appropriate, converting one-way roads to 2 ways operation, improving car parking, installing electric vehicle charging points and tree planting. The locations that are part of this scheme are Devons Road, Whitethorn Street, Fern Street, Empson Street, Devas Street & Purdy Street. Some more minor elements have already moved to implementation, but we are now seeking your views on the remaining parts of the scheme. A survey can be found below.
Individual elements of the scheme for each street is summarised below:
Devons Road to St Pauls Way
The area has a significant traffic flow, and Devons Road has two bus routes. To mitigate the congestion, double yellow lines will be included to create a more effortless flow of movement outside peak hours. Opportunities for additional parking spaces on Devons Road will be investigated.
Whitethorn Street
To improve road safety and crossing facilities, a crossing table is proposed at Whitethorn Street junction with Devons Road and Tidley Street. The traffic flow will be enhanced by reprofiling the parking bays and installing double yellow lines in their place. This project will review the priority traffic measures in line with parking needs
Fern Street
Fern Street currently operates a one-way traffic system. It is proposed that a 2-way traffic movement will be created to facilitate the traffic flow. Due to the proximity to the Clara Grant Primary School, there is an aspiration to improve parking provision and retain the existing school street scheme.
Empson Street, Devons Road, Devas Street & Purdy Street
In Empson Street, Reves Road and Purdy Street, new parking bays and speed humps are proposed.
