Consultation has concluded

Proposal to Expand St Saviour’s CE Primary School

St Saviour’s CE Primary School has agreed to consult on a proposal to create additional primary school places in the Poplar area by expanding the school from 1FE to 2FE, and thereby increasing the school size from 210 to 420 places for September 2024.

This consultation is for parents, carers, governors, staff, pupils of St Saviour’s Primary School, and any other persons who have an interest in the school, to express their views or ask questions on the proposed expansion.

The Consultation Document can be viewed in the documents tab.

Why your views matter

The council has a statutory duty to plan and secure sufficient school places for children in its area, and therefore it is required to plan for the expansion of its school capacity when this becomes necessary.

The number of children in primary schools in Poplar and the Isle of Dogs has increased over the last few years as a result of new families moving into new housing. Latest forecasts indicate that this increase in pupil numbers will continue. It is therefore necessary to start the process of consulting on and implementing additional places in these areas to ensure that there are enough local places available to meet demand.

What happens next

The information gathered from this consultation will enable the council to determine whether or not to proceed with an expansion proposal decision.

As St Saviour’s is voluntary aided, the local authority is not the only decision maker for the school’s expansion. The final decision as to whether the school expands will be made in partnership with the London Diocesan Board for Schools.

To give views in person or ask questions, you are invited to attend the public School Consultation Event on Wednesday 02 November 2022, 5pm at St Saviour’s CE Primary School, Chrisp Street, Poplar, E14 6BB.
