A regulation 16 consultation on the Spitalfields Neighbourhood Plan will run between Thursday 7 January and Thursday 18 February 2021.
This is your chance to have your say on whether the neighbourhood plan meets the ‘basic conditions’ required for the Council to adopt it as planning policy for the area, as set out under Schedule 4B, sub-section 8(2) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.
A neighbourhood plan should:
Have regard to national policies and advice contained in guidance issues by the Secretary of State
Have special regard to the desirability of preserving any listed building or its setting or any features of special architectural or historic interest that it possessed
Have special regard to the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of any conservation area
Contribute to the achievement of sustainable development
Be in general conformity with the strategic policies contained in the development plan for the area (in this case, the Tower Hamlets Local Plan 2031 and the current London Plan)
Not breach, and otherwise be compatible with, EU obligations [although the UK has now left the EU, certain EU Directives that have been incorporated into UK law still apply – including the SEA Directive, Habitats Directive, and Wild Birds Directive]
Responses should be submitted using our survey, or sent by email to neighbourhoodplanning@towerhamlets.gov.uk by 5pm on Thursday 18 February 2021. If you would like to arrange a call with the project team, please call 020 7364 5009 (weekdays 9am to 5pm).
Following the consultation, the neighbourhood plan will undergo an independent examination, which will end with a recommendation on whether a referendum should be held on the plan. Following this, the Council will make a decision on whether to formally adopt the neighbourhood plan. If you would like to be notified of the eventual decision regarding the neighbourhood plan, please specify this in your response.
