Liveable Streets is a multi-million-pound borough-wide street and public space improvement programme. It aims to improve the look and feel of public spaces in neighbourhoods across the borough and make it easier, safer, and more convenient to get around by foot, bike and public transport.
We have now finished early engagement activities, co-design workshops and consultation of the Liveable Streets Wapping project. So far, we have listened to Wapping residents and heard your concerns on issues including through-traffic, dangerous driving, anti-social behaviour, and pollution.
See the right side of the page to find out more about the previous stages of the Liveable Streets Wapping programme.
The programme is now moving into the construction phase for the Wapping area, which will commence from Monday 12 October 2020. We will update each neighbourhood on the specific works taking place on the roads around them, or you can check this webpage for updates below on the latest construction updates.
Construction Updates
The first stage of works for the Wapping area have now been completed. Pavements have been widened and the kerb lines have been changed to improve access for pedestrians on Vaughn Way and Kennet Street.
We have also completed the installation of a new zebra crossing and changes to the kerb on Garnet Street outside St Peter’s London Dock School, making accessibility to the school safer for all users.
The next stage of works are scheduled to begin on Wapping Lane in January 2021.
All site works will take place between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00 and if necessary, on weekends between 09:00 and 13:00. The team will work hard to keep any unnecessary noise to a minimum.
Our Liveable Streets programme team are following Government advice and are currently working remotely. Work will continue as planned on the projects and the team will adhere to all guidelines set out by the Government.
Please note that construction timing is subject to change pending COVID-19 restrictions, weather conditions and coordination of works in the area. We will update the website with any changes to the programme and hope you will continue to help us improve the look and feel of your neighbourhood.
