The Council collects income through rent collection so that we can continue to fund our core services.
We are updating our approach to rent collection in the form of a new policy so that we can better support our residents to repay any debts to us. Our financial inclusion strategies will seek to proactively flag arrears and sustain tenancies, using eviction only as a last resort when all other interventions have been unsuccessful. We will act with compassion and work with residents to create manageable repayment agreements where appropriate.
It is important to us for residents to understand the options available to them when they are struggling, and to be able to access support through the council without fear of judgement.
We therefore want to hear from residents both about your knowledge regarding the services we provide, and how you feel about what the policy document itself sets out.
Please do not recirculate the attached policy document, as it remains subject to change while we implement feedback from this consultation.
