Welcome to the South Poplar Masterplan consultation page.

The aim of this masterplan is to sustainably manage the significant growth being experienced in the area and to ensure it benefits existing as well as new communities. The masterplan is a joint project involving the local community, the Council, Transport for London and the Mayor of London. Maccreanor Lavington (Architects & Urbanists) and Soundings (Community Engagement Specialists) are assisting in the development of the masterplan.

The masterplan is being developed as a supplementary planning document (SPD) and will support the delivery of the Tower Hamlets Local Plan and the Mayor of London’s Isle of Dogs and South Poplar Opportunity Area Framework.

The Masterplan

Strategic location view of masterplan area

This masterplan will cover approximately 30 hectares of land through both South Poplar and Canary Wharf. The vision of this document is to help ensure that South Poplar shares in the benefits of good growth, improved transport capacity and connectivity, be provided with social infrastructure alongside development, benefit from joined up development across different land ownership and be protected against the construction impacts of future developments. The masterplan will provide opportunities for social cohesion, optimise land around a transport hub and provide more certainty within the development management process.

All comments and information received will be carefully analysed and will help to inform the SPD. We will publish a summary of feedback received (no personal information will be published) and how it was taken into account in the revised SPD. It is expected that the SPD will be adopted in the summer 2021.

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected the ability for us to engage on this project in more traditional forms, however this consultation page has been prepared to ensure that we continue to engage and inform the local community in a safe and secure way.
