The existing 26 single-storey garages is situated to the east of the O’Brien House residential block. The site is located on the south side of Roman Road behind a converted public house. The site has good access to public transport links such as Bethnal Green and Mile End Underground stations and bus routes along Roman Road. It is also near to public green spaces such as Meath Gardens, Mile End Park and the Regent’s Canal.
The proposal
Tower Hamlets Council proposes to redevelop the garage site into housing with a range of property sizes between one and four bedrooms in a mix of affordable and private for sale homes. The proposals include shared amenity space to the east of the site.
Project Team
Shepheard Epstein Hunter have been appointed to design the initial proposals for this consultation. We are a London-based architecture practice with extensive experience of housing projects particularly on constrained sites such as this.
