Love Whitechapel? What would you change about your local area? What would make a difference to you? Tell us your ideas!

Liveable Streets is a multi-million pound borough-wide street and public space improvement programme. It aims to improve the look and feel of public spaces in neighbourhoods across the borough and make it easier, safer, and more convenient to get around by foot, bike and public transport.

Tower Hamlets has the highest average daily traffic flow in the UK with a substantial proportion of motor vehicles passing through the borough. This through-traffic should by and large stick to the main roads but many of our residential neighbourhoods have suffered huge increases in rat-running traffic, making them more dangerous, noisy and polluted.

Many areas across the borough have been identified for the scheme - as shown in our project overview map. The programme is now starting in the Whitechapel area, and we will be working with the community through every stage of the Liveable Streets programme to make the improvements you want to see (view the Liveable Streets design process). We have a blank piece of paper and want your creative ideas, thoughts and feedback to help shape the plans for your area.

Update: The early engagement period has now closed. We will be analysing your feedback and suggestions, in order to feed into concept designs. These will be shared with you in the next stage of engagement during the co-design workshops which will likely take place early 2021.

If you have any questions regarding the Liveable Streets Whitechapel programme, please contact the team at liveablestreets@towerhamlets.gov.uk or 0203 092 0401 (weekdays, excluding public holidays, 9am - 5pm).
