Brick Lane – New pedestrian only zones from 12th February

We are pleased to inform you work is due to begin on the Liveable Streets programme in the Brick Lane area.

Following a review of the existing scheme in late 2021, we are making some changes and investing in making it safer for pedestrians during the busiest times while still allowing emergency services access.

Upcoming changes to the Brick Lane pedestrian zones will be launched on 12th February 2022. Preparatory works are scheduled to begin on site this week and will be completed in stages to minimise any disruption.

The changes include the following:

  • Pedestrian only zones will operate from Hanbury Street to Woodseer Street and Buxton Street to Taylor’s Yard entrance from 12pm-11pm on Saturdays and 11am-11pm on Sundays.

  • Fournier Street and Princelet Street will be converted to one-way eastbound operation between their junctions with Wilkes Street and Brick Lane.
