Urgent need for a local pharmacy in Fish Island
From "Pharmacy Needs Assessment"
Go to the project
Fish Island has seen rapid residential development over recent years, but vital healthcare infrastructure has simply not kept pace. Despite becoming a bustling, high-density neighbourhood, the area still does not have a single dedicated community pharmacy.
Right now, whenever residents need to collect a routine prescription, purchase over-the-counter medicine, or speak to a healthcare professional, they are forced to leave the area, often crossing over into Bow, or Stratford. This journey is particularly challenging for young families with sick children, elderly residents, and anyone managing chronic health conditions or reduced mobility.
Opening a pharmacy within Fish Island would provide immediate access to essential medications and early-intervention health advice. With community pharmacies now delivering expanded NHS clinical services for common minor illnesses, an on-site pharmacy would also directly relieve pressure on surrounding GP practices, walk-in centres, and local A&E departments.
For an expanding community of this scale, an accessible local pharmacy is not an extra IT IS AN ESSENTIAL PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE THAT IS URGENTLY OVERDUE.
