Ensuring Pharmacy Services Keep Pace with Fish Island Village Growth
From "Pharmacy Needs Assessment"
Go to the project
Fish Island Village is a rapidly growing residential community that is already underserved by convenient local pharmacy provision, with further residential development currently underway and planned.
There is currently no pharmacy conveniently located within the development itself.
Nearby pharmacies are outside Fish Island Village and can require a relatively long walk, particularly for residents without access to a car or convenient public transport.
Convenient local access is particularly important for families with young children, older residents and anyone with limited mobility. A local pharmacy could provide convenient access to prescriptions, medicines, vaccinations, blood pressure checks and services.
Given the continued growth and development of Fish Island Village, I believe the PNA should specifically assess the case for improved local pharmacy provision within or immediately adjacent to the community, both to address current accessibility and to meet future demand.
The assessment should consider actual walking distances and accessibility, as well as the capacity and opening hours of existing pharmacies, rather than simply whether a pharmacy exists somewhere in the wider surrounding area.
