Complete the Current Project First

It is encouraging to see the Council exploring opportunities to make better use of currently unused spaces, including the vacant site at Augusta Street, Poplar. However, it is important that the Council prioritises the completion of the existing regeneration programme, which has been ongoing for several years and remains undelivered.

Residents have been waiting for the promised outcomes of this regeneration project, and ensuring that these existing commitments are fulfilled should be the immediate priority. If the Council and its partners are unable to deliver the current regeneration programme effectively, it naturally raises concerns about confidence in the delivery of further social housing commitments.

The Council should work closely with Poplar HARCA to ensure that existing promises are delivered before introducing new proposals. Demonstrating successful delivery of current projects is essential to maintaining residents’ trust and ensuring that future developments are driven by genuine community needs rather than the interests of developers.
