In January 2020, the council adopted its new Local Plan and we are now working on delivering the vision and objectives contained within it. We are also working on an Area Action Plan for the east of the borough (see map), which will provide more detail on how this area should develop over the next 10 years.

In the east of the borough, one of our key objectives is to improve the quality of open space and access to open space within the area. We would like to hear your ideas on how the existing open spaces in the area could be improved and whether there is potential to provide new open spaces.

We would like to know:

  • Which open spaces do you enjoy visiting in the area and why?
  • Are any of the open spaces you visit rich in wildlife or biodiversity?
  • What facilities would you like to be provided in open spaces within the area?
  • Which areas have a lack of open space available for the community to use?

You know your community best so we want to hear from you. Using the discussion forum below, you can let us know your thoughts on the above questions and play an important part in the future of this area.

We understand that geography, transport options and facilities do not stop at the border of Tower Hamlets, and we want to understand how people access and use open spaces in their local area, even where that extends beyond Tower Hamlets. Therefore, we welcome comments on any location within the map boundary, including inside the neighbouring borough of Newham. This will help us understand how people use open spaces, and whether people cross borough boundaries to access open space; but we are only able to influence the plans for the area in dark red.

The best way to get involved is to give your answers to the questions below, in the forum section. Alternatively, you can also email your comments to planmaking@towerhamlets.gov.uk

How will your responses be used?

We are working to develop planning policies on open spaces in the East of the Borough. Your answers to the forum questions below will help inform the policies we implement on open spaces in a new Area Action Plan for the East of the Borough.

It's really important that these projects capture the views and ideas of a range of people that reflects our diverse borough. One way we can achieve that is to understand a bit more about who is participating and providing us with information. Once you've submitted your suggestions, we'd love it if you could take a couple of minutes to tell us a bit about yourself by completing the short survey.
