What is community engagement and why is it important to the council?

In the Council’s Strategic Plan 2022-26 we have committed to being ‘a council that listens and works for everyone'. Without strong community engagement, we won’t achieve this.

Community Engagement happens when communities have a say over the decisions that affect their lives. We believe that if the council and the community work together to make decisions it will lead to better policies and services that improve the lives of residents.

We are working with residents, the voluntary and community sector, statutory partners, council staff, local businesses and elected members to develop a new Community Engagement Strategy.

How can I get involved?

We are going to engage with communities and partners between 12 October to 24 November 2023 in a number of ways:

  • Filling in our survey (see below)
  • Drop-in sessions
  • Partner workshops

We are organising drop-in sessions and partner workshops. For more information please visit www.towerhamlets.gov.uk/communityengagement

How will my information be used?

After the engagement process we will go through the information collected from the survey, drop-in sessions and workshops to identify what people have said. We will then combine this with the research we have been doing on good practice from other organisations and use it to write a draft strategy.

Following the development of the draft strategy we will contact the people who have taken part to share the impact their involvement has had on the development of the strategy.

Your responses will be held securely on our database, and only accessed by Council officers. Your data will be deleted 12 months after the project is completed.

Get in touch

If you have any questions, would like to talk to a member of the team, or need support to participate please contact engagement@towerhamlets.gov.uk

By taking part, participants will be entered into a prize draw and 20 people will win a £20 Love2Shop voucher. Please note you will need to provide your email address to enter the prize draw.

Thank you for taking part in our survey.
