We are consulting on proposals to provide a total of 17 new mixed tenure, energy efficient apartments on the site of the existing garage units on Bromley Street. The development of the site will include the provision of child play space to benefit both the new homes and the wider community.

The new homes being developed on the site will be well-designed, built to modern space standards, be energy efficient and make a positive contribution to the local environment.

Who are we?

LTS Architects, along with a team of specialist consultants, have been appointed by The London Borough of Tower Hamlets to develop designs for the mixed-tenure housing on the site of the existing garage units on Bromley Street.

Why do we need to build?

The Council has more than 18,000 people on its housing register with nearly 10,000 of those in acute housing need. Families with a need for a 2 bedroom home can wait up to 12 years. Nearly 2,000 households have been placed in temporary accommodation, waiting for a permanent home. According to the national homelessness charity, Shelter, 60% of residents in Tower Hamlets struggle to meet their housing costs. The Mayor is committed to the delivery of 2,000 new affordable council homes.

Creating a green space

The design has taken into account the surrounding context and density, and is proposing a sensitive development of 17 mixed-tenure apartments. The proposed apartment block compliments the existing buildings of Bromley Street, with a generous public landscaped play space to the street. This will provide doorstep play to the wider community. New planting will line the edge of the site providing greenery to this corner of Bromley Street.
