The Tower Hamlets Women’s Commission has been launched to reduce inequalities women face at work, in public life, social settings and within their families.

This is because, whilst progress has been made, women in Tower Hamlets and nationally continue to face unequal outcomes compared to their male counterparts.

For example, Census 2021 data shows that a woman’s healthy life expectancy is 7 and a half years shorter than a man's healthy life expectancy in Tower Hamlets.

At the Commission, we are committed to advancing opportunities and outcomes for women across four key areas::

  • Health

  • Safety

  • Employment

  • Community Leadership

The council, working with key partners, wants to create a stronger, fairer, and more inclusive borough where gender inequalities are actively addressed, and our workforce reflects the diverse community we serve.

The Tower Hamlets’ Women’s Commission is inviting all women who live and work in the borough to share their lived experiences by engaging with our surveys, workshops, or our formal public reviews.
